Growing economic activity and job prospects have resulted from Nakuru County’s recent substantial expansion and development. Infrastructure, agricultural, and tourism investments, among other things, have all contributed to this expansion. Traffic congestion and parking management have become issues as a result of the county’s increased car traffic.
In order to manage parking in the county and handle these challenges, the Nakuru County Government put in place a parking tax system. The technology intends to improve service delivery and bring in money for the county.
The county administration implemented a digitalized method for collecting parking fines in order to streamline and expedite the process. USSD and M-PESA can now be used by drivers to pay for parking. Using their phones, they must contact *486#, choose “Street Parking,” enter their sub-county, and choose the kind of car they are operating since parking costs differ based on the kind of car and the area they operate normally.
It is anticipated that the county government will get more cash from the higher parking costs and that more revenue will be utilized to improve infrastructure and service delivery. In an effort to improve efficiency and lower human error, the county administration is also automating the mechanism that collects parking fees.
